MailWasher Pro (Version 2010) Beta Overview
Thank you for your interest in beta testing the new MailWasher Pro. We hope you like what you see and the experience is positive for you. and of course we want to hear anything you don't like.
Our existing dedicated team of beta testers have been busy for over a year helping us get through bugs and adding helpful feedback (Thank you so much!), so hopefully you'll find this version relatively stable and bug free.
Please remember: This is beta software, so issues may arise which could cause crashes and general instability. You may also run your existing version of MailWasher Pro at the same time.
New Features
We've compiled a list of some of the new features, plus how some of them differ from MailWasher Pro. There are many more changes not documented explicitly here, but you'll find them as you try it.

Suggestions
Please use the forums and try and keep the scope in terms of the current feature set as we've already got loads of suggestions about what to include in future versions. Perhaps there's things which can be improved on in terms of usability for example.

Message table
The message table appears to be mostly the same, but has these important additions
- Customizable colors for good, spam and unrecognized email
- Search as you type quickly finds your emails
- Zoom to make the text bigger or smaller for easier reading
- Change the layout so the preview pane is on the left, buttons on the right etc
- Drag and drop columns to quickly arrange them as you like
- Group by columns to make sorting and viewing your emails more relevant
- Evaluation notification sidebar so you can see what spam tools were used in an evaluation
- Clearer filter notifications with colors make it easier to see which filters are triggered
Filter Side Bar
The filter side bar is now more useful as it shows content by context. Plus an all new Evaluation tool shows which spam tools are used in determining if an email is spam or good.
- Friends, blacklisted emails and filters are highlighted contextually
- You can see at a glance which spam tools were triggered and their score for each email
Tabs
Tabs are now used for navigation to quickly move to the most important areas.
Recycle Bin
The recycle bin is improved so that you can search for deleted emails quickly and restore them easily. A preview pane is also used to help find email.
Event Log
An event log is used to convey problems encountered as often happens with email, along with a recommendation to fix the problem.
Settings
The settings area has been changed to allow quick access to common tools.

Process Mail is now Wash Mail
Filters
Filters have been upgraded to include more operators and actions. The filter engine has changed and old MailWasher filters will no longer work.
Checking Mail
Checking mail via POP3 should be much faster for many people as MailWasher takes advantage of a feature called Pipelining. Not all ISP's support this. Downloaded emails are cached, so re-loading is very fast.
Spam Tools
Emails are now evaluated on a weighted basis using each spam tool together to give an overall score instead of using just one spam tool and then moving on to the next email. This improves accuracy and helps avoid being dependent on just one spam tool.
Database
Most settings and data is now held in a database instead of text files and memory. This helps with being able to store more data and portability.
Languages
MailWasher is now able to be easily localized by altering the appropriate XML file in the Help>>Common Files>>Languages folder.

Important things to note
Spam recognition is now based on a weighted system. This means all spam tools are used to evaluate an email based on total spam points, instead of as in the current MailWasher Pro where once an email was tagged as spam by one spam tool no further action was taken. A weighted spam system leads to more accurate spam recognition. See Settings>>Spam Tools>>Spam Ratings.
Performance on older computers. User with older computers may want to tweak some of the performance settings to make MailWasher run faster in Settings>>General>>Performance.
Bugs and unfinished items You may encounter bugs, so please let us know about these in the forum.
Short tutorial
Download and run the installer. It should detect your account settings and contacts lists from your current email client and import these.
The operation of MailWasher Pro beta is similar to the current MailWasher Pro so there shouldn't be too many issues about general use.
All the configuration files and database files related to you can be accessed via the Help>>User Files link. Common files such as languages, general server details are accessed at Help>>Common Files link.
Give it a good test with daily use and please provide feedback via the forum about what you like, don't like and how it's working for you.
Excluded items still to be completed before release
Not all features you see in MailWasher Pro are present in MailWasher Pro beta, however we are working through these at a steady pace.
