Users of Avast Antivirus will be finding many of their programs will be falsely showing as infected with a trojan (incl. MailWasher)
This includes other well known programs like Skype, Spybot S&D, Nexus and Copernic for example. This is obviously a false detection (known as a false positive) and at the moment Avast's forums are swamped with people letting them know about it. So we'd like to reassure users that our software does not contain any viruses.
As a workaround until Avast update their definitions -
Right click on the Avast! On-line Scanner Icon in the System Tray (bottom righthand side of screen - the blue one with 'a' in it ) and left click Stop Provider > Standard Shield.
Download MailWasher Pro from http://www.firetrust.com/en/download
and install again and when MailWasher Pro asks click "Use My Existing MailWasher Pro Settings"
Edit : Avast have now updated their definitions file correcting this problem, so please update those first before trying anything else.
To update the Avast database manually right-click on the Avast icon in your system tray and select "Updating" from the menu and then select "iAVS Update". Click it and it will update to the latest version.

Have had this problem, and
Have had this problem, and belatedly come across your comments regarding Avast.
But, what do you do? I pressed send to chest on the offered advice, and now my shortcut doesn't work.
Should I have just ignored all alternatives, since they did indicate it was a false positive.
Apparently the fix searched for MailWasher.exe instead of MailWasher Pro.exe
How do I recover my shortcut?
The above is the report.
Now the P.S.
Apparently have fixed everything !
Simply went and downloaded the latest version MailWasher Pro 6.5.3
Will just send this now as is, in case it has some use.

I wasn't as fortunate. I
I wasn't as fortunate. I uninstalled, re-installed and, finally, uninstalled MailWasherPro (along with ten or twelve other files which Avast identified as being infected.
I miss my MailWasher, but the psychic trauma of having to be notified of a security breech every time I log on was unacceptable. Perhaps, later.........I don't know; but I've been using MW for ages now and without it I feel so empty.
Hi Jim If you update your
Hi Jim
If you update your Avast definitions that will fix the problem now and you won't get these problematic alerts from Avast when using MailWasher....or the other programs it incorrectly said were Trojans.
Cheers

Google "beta testing" and
Google "beta testing" and learn how to try your updates before making so many customers miserable. Then, when you learn how to do this, you can WARN customers before they download your update.
This has happened three times since I am using Mailwasher. The most newbie software companies know how to remember customers.
Unhappy with people who don't think customers matter.
Actually this just happened
Actually this just happened out of the blue. This MailWasher update has been on the site for quite a few weeks and it was Avast who caused the problem. We put up a warning on the upgrade page as soon as we heard, so maybe you didn't see that?
Speaking of "newbies" - Beta
Speaking of "newbies" - Beta Testing is, by defiintion, TESTING. The purpose of beta testing is to find out if there are still any bugs in the software BEFORE the production realease. You should Never download a BETA version of software to replace the current production release version of any software. If you do, you are just asking for trouble. If you are curious about the BETA or want to assist in testing, always install beta software separate from the current release version that you are presently using.
Re Avast! problem. I did
Re Avast! problem. I did malign Mailwasher in the uninstal of Mailwasher by telling them the Trojan was theirs! Sorry guys. Avast have got a fix out for it about restoring from the Virus Chest but it doesn't work if you can't open avast and your computer hangs. The only way I got round it was to go into safe mode with networking (so you can update avast ) the way their fix suggests. Or what I did was to system restore a point back before 3 December, restart in safe mode for the avast update. What a day! Hope this helps
Now that I have restored all
Now that I have restored all the files from the chest and my system is running fine (your fix instructions worked well and thanks for being so prompt) - can I delete the files from the chest which were virus free and restored - or do they just have to sit there? Thanks (neat freak :-) )
I personally would leave them
I personally would leave them there just in case, at least for another week. Though I cannot be certain Avast will probably clean up files in the Chest after xx amount of time, if after that week you haven't had issues then it's probably safe to assume you can delete them.

Hi all,
I've used Avast, AVG and all sorts of scanners. Ditch the lot and get ESET NOD32 Smart Security. You have to pay but the loss of hassle and good performance and peace of mind are well worth the money.
No connection other than a VERY satisfied customer.
