Second City CEO has posted regarding a number of websites that have been recently registered relating to the tragedy at Virigina Tech. We would hope that these sites were intended as memorials, unfortunately many are already on sale, so some had the intent to make a quick buck.

After Hurricane Katrina, there was a flurry of new websites all accepting donations with the promise to pass this money on, but it was proven that not the people were honest in their activites.

I’m not going to accuse anyone of deliberately trying to deceive the public and obtain money under false pretences, but I will encourage anyone who is considering making a donation to do so through the official channels, or charities, and to not deal with third party sites offering to pass this money along. There is no reason for these third party sites to take the donations directly.

The offical website to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund can be found here http://www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php

The third party sites taking donations at present are (please be wary)
