Pirate Technicians

We got this email a couple of days ago from a user

Dear Firetrust Support

I purchased MailWasher Pro some time ago and am very pleased with it.

You kindly sent me my registration key when I told you that I would be having a re-installation of Windows XP. This has finally been done. My PC had to go to a local workshop and the technician who worked on it also reinstalled most of the software and programs that I use. He asked about MailWasher and I said that, since the registration key was 10 lines of typing, it might be better for him to download the free version of MailWasher and leave it on my desktop. I would then organize it later. Anyway, I was not anxious to give him all my details!! When the PC was returned, I found that he had reinstalled MY MailWasher Pro without my giving him any details. He informed me that he was able to do this by "hacking" into the program!!

As it turns out the "technician" and I use that term very loosly, installed MailWasher Pro on their machine for them, but then used a pirated registration code.   Certainly not the kind of technician I'd want working on my computer.

As with many and most programs, applications and utilities available, there are many people who refuse to pay for them and find ways to hack, crack and patch the warez that they download. There are numerous pirate sites that post programs, complete with key generators and working serial numbers. Windows is the most hacked program on the planet as Microsoft is the most hated company,on the planet and for obvious reasons. People refuse to pay for a bug farm with Bill Gates at the cash register.
It's also apparent that people enjoy finding ways to bypass software registrations, just for the fun of it, then posting their finds on the pirate sites. Mailwasher Pro is such a program that has been cracked and working serial numbers created and posted all over the 'Net.

It's a never ending process that hurts software developers and companies.

You're absolutely right.   What made this interesting....at least for us....was that the person who took their PC in for repair did have a legitimate registration for MailWasher Pro already, but instead this 'technician' took it upon himself to place a pirated copy of MailWasher on the persons computer.   Perhaps he thought he was just being helpful, but one wonders, if a 'technician' is prepared to do that kind of thing, what other things might he do while having that PC in his possession.

I don't think Microsoft is the most hated company on the planet. The biggest Microsoft bashers still insist on using Windows and whining about it. You are a perfect example of this with your "Anonymous" posting.

What are you blathering on about? No one mentioned Microsoft, or Windows for that matter. Clean the wax out of your eyes.

I think AL was responding to:

After installing MailWasher Pro's newest version 6.0, I found out that pages from the setup screen are truncated and that input cells and option buttons are completely obscured.
This has been already posted by members in the forum and had been acknowledged by the gurus of MailWasher.
However, no fix has been offered officially to date or the bug being mentioned in the website. Consider the honest user buying a license and being confronted with a software, which does not even allow the setup of his e-mail account.
No wonder software pirates take it so easy without having any qualms. They probably feel justified not to pay for something which is crap in the first place and laugh at the honest but conned guy.

yes you're correct and apologies for this. It's due to using a different font size than standard. We've got a fix for it which you can download from here and we'll make it generally available soon.

I think that hacking is a bad thing to do but there are a lot of people from small countries who have a pc but they don't have enough money to buy all the programs they need to use, so they download them for free from the Net
