If you aren’t aware we are rewriting MailWasher from scratch, we are about 8 months into development and things are really shaping up well.
Here’s a video of the new program so far taken a couple of weeks ago
One of the challenges faced is we’ve often had to wonder, how many users have certain options set, or how many chose to display MailWasher a certain way over another. Frankly we have no real idea... we know how we use the software and we have a general feeling for how you use the software, but this is based on anecdotal evidence from our support emails and other feedback. We don’t have cold hard statistics to back up these ideas, and we think it’s time we tried to gather some to help us shape the new version of MailWasher Pro.
We’ve written a small utility program, that scans your MailWasher Pro settings and sends them back to us. It’s crucial we emphasise here, *no personal data is transmitted*. It’s simply a summary of your MailWasher settings and some machine specifications such as your Operating System, Display Resolution etc...
For some reassurance, here’s the results run from the machine used by none other than The Big Cheese
http://s3.amazonaws.com/Firetrust/stat-collector/1115369095.xml
So it would be greatly appreciated by all of us at Firetrust if you download and run the MailWasherStatCollector and help us understand how you use MailWasher, and that will ensure we make more informed decisions on our new version.
You can view more information and download the MailWasherStatCollector here http://www.firetrust.com/en/products/mailwasher-pro/stat-collector
EDIT : We have enough responses now, there is no need to run this any more.

You guys make the best spam

Hi, Guys;
For some reason MailWasher Stats Collector will not run on my computer. Each time I try to run it I get a message that either your server is down or there is something wrong with my internet connection. I'm able to send and receive files and mail with no problem so I'm stumped as to why it's not working. I've even checked to see if it was allowed to access the net which it is. Any ideas?
Cheers.

Chris/admin. I've been using
Chris/admin. I've been using MailWasher for something like 10 years now, both free then Pro. It is the most valued program on my PC and I would not use emails without MailWasher taking a look first. Always recommended by me. Will the new version be able to copy settings over from Pro6.5?
You've mention before that the release date would likely be about 2/3 months, so would you now say this will be around October 2009? You also say there will be a minmal upgrade fee, will this fee included a subscrpition to Firetrust Anti-spam update service?
Not a fan of your Bouncing feature though. Most bounced emails end up on highjacked PC's or cloned email accounts. You'd need to convice me of the effective use of this feature.
Cheers,
Derek
Hi Derek. Whenever possible
Hi Derek. Whenever possible we'll be using the old MailWasher Pro settings in the new version, and we'll hopefully be releasing in October, though maybe early November depending on how things progress. The upgrade fee I don't believe will include any FirstAlert subscription, though any existing FirstAlert account will still function.

Hmmm! I have always found [with two different ISP's here in Hong Kong] that the FIRST attempt to "bounce is APPARENTLY successful, yet if one tries to bounce the same message again - it says that it is [effectively] a "dud" e'mail address I'm attempting to bounce to - and I KNOW the "Bounce" address is "GOOD" - it is for the ISP abuse@Netvigator.com or even a "test" to my own e'mail address - that too says it is impossible to send.
I give a decided "THUMBS DOWN" to the fake "BOUNCE" facility - especially as I want to drive home to my ISP that I disdeign the crap "boilerplate" replies they send me whenever I send SPAM to "abuse@Netvigator.com" !!!
I have NEVER had any success bouncing back via either of the HK ISPs I have used.
Hmmm ! One thing that has
Hmmm ! One thing that has struck me - the low limit of a mere 800 lines preview.
When I get crap responses to my complaints of SPAM & Scams from my useless ISP [Netvigator.com] - they send back 3.8MB of my message - which is mostly ASCII conversions of my many graphics files I lambast them with.
800 lines does NOT take in the masses MORE lines of strange ASCII that they send back to me - and which *I* want to dump back at them again in revenge.
Give me the opportunity to acquire all my original "yelling at them" - so I can do another "dump" on them for their crass stupidity at sending e'mails that are not personally addressed to me, and 99.999% of the time are to faked addresses anyway - but when told - Netvigator do damn all about stopping such messages.
Thus, it would be *GREAT* to dump 3.8MB of ASCII PLUS another dose of my "slagging off" jpg's on to their various addresses that are supposed to take action - but do NOT!

Hi,
i wonder if there will be - finally - a backup feature available, to be able to backup program settings, friends list, blacklist, etc ... in case of re-installation ?
Thanks.
Hello Chris, I have used
Hello Chris,
I have used MailWasher almost since it's inception and I have nothing but praise for the program. I don't download any emails onto my PC or laptop without first using MailWasher. I remember how bad spam was before MailWasher and ISP's using Spam filters. It's a sensational program and the new one looks even better and I can't wait to try it.
I've been using Mailwasher
I've been using Mailwasher for several years and it's a real asset in filtering unwanted mail. But, I have to check a couple of accounts belonging to other people in the process of my work (fully authorized by those persons) and one of these people almost never archives mail and his inbox generally has upwards of 200 emails. As I also have to travel in Latin America much of the time, my access speed is often minimal. I also am often in the need of shutting as many programs running in the background off to save the battery on my laptop. After spending a considerable amount of time getting and reviewing the messages, Mailwasher erases every one of them when I shut down my computer or turn Mailwasher off to save resources. That means the next time I run Mailwasher it requires a complete download of the items that I'm already aware of and a duplication of time already spent on the same items.
Will the new version maintain the mail already downloaded when the program or computer is shut off?
Thanks, the new version will
Thanks, the new version will cache all your checked email, so will reload it very quickly instead of re-checking it. Also, it will load the newest messages first, so you don't have to go through the old messages again.
