MailWasher Pro and Phone Support

Ki Ora from a sunny but cooling New Zealand

It's almost winter and before the ski season hits and all the staff here at Firetrust go play in the snow, we'd thought we would give a quick update on MailWasher Pro.

The release of Vista wasn't entirely kind to us, as testing produced some inconsistent results. But while the programming team was happily working their way through the issues, the big cheese here at Firetrust (click on the link for a picture) decided on changing some of the usability and making some graphical changes. Moved some buttons, coloured in some pretty pictures...you know the stuff I mean.

However with the help of a large stick and encouragement propoganda entitled "How not to be beaten by the large stick" we are making good progress, and will have a release in the not too distant future.

If you're a Vista user and having problems, then you should be able to resolve the main issues by ensuring MailWasher Pro runs as an Administrator. To do this, right click on your MailWasher Pro shortcut >> with the left mouse button select Properties >> select the Compatibility tab at the top >> ensure the option "Run as administrator" is checked >> click OK. Any further problems please contact support.

While I'm on the topic of support, when I'm asked what I do at Firetrust I always proudly boast "I'm a monkey with a keyboard". Well now, Hamish, who is a long standing member of the support team can now boast to his family and friends "I'm a monkey with a keyboard....and a phone".
Mostly working from home, Hamish now comes into the office specially for you. He was the obvious choice for offering technical support over the phone, with his pleasant manners, and the bringing of cookies into the office.

We'll trial the phone support for a time, and see how good it is. If you have a problem you'd like to discuss (ideally related to our software) and want to give Hamish a call, please check out our Contact page for all the details.

How do you set up mailwasher with Vista when using the "Outlook Express" replacement "Windows Mail"?
Is "Windows Mail" part of regular Outlook?
Thanks

Hi Harry,

Windows Mail is part of the new Microsoft Vista operating system, and the current version of MailWasher doesn't support this yet. We'll be releasing a public beta version of the next version of MailWasher Pro with full Vista support quite soon.

I can't say thank you enough for MailWasher pro. It has help eliminate spam in my emails to almost nil. And I was getting alot of spam. To the point that it was making me sick to open my emails. MailWaher changed all that along with 2 free programs I use. IPNetInfo and Abuse. This 1-2-3 punch works great. Abuse is a program that scans the headers of the spam and then gives you the ISP the email originated from. It then let's you select a preconfigured complaint letter to send into the ISP Abuse Dept. IPNetInfo allows me to trace the other IP's in the header so I can report to the ISP's that are being used along the way as well as websites that are being used by these scumbags. Google, Yahoo, and MSN get used alot by the spammers for forging addresses. I actually look forward now to getting spam so I can report the idiots to their ISP's and have them disconnected even if it is only for a short time. But, these 2 free programs are useless without MailWasher in my opinion. All 3 together work seemlessly. here's the link for Abuse if you want to check it out. I am in no way associated with the program. I just believe in it. It has worked wonders for me.

MailWasher Pro is a highly competent, usable, secure and time-saving spam filtering tool. Combining multiple approaches, MailWasher Pro achieves a solid spam detection rate and protects you from viruses to some extent, too.

The built in Outlook spam filters work ok for me, but from time to time I have put some senders on the blocked list. What are the advantages of Mailwasher compared to the Outlook spam filters?

I have just downloaded mailwasher free on my wifes machine but it does not want to work she is running Vista. It keeps asking her to sign into her ISP mail account then stops running. Can you help?

Sounds like the logon details are wrong, either the username or password.

The best option is to check those, and if it still fails then contact Support, they will be able to help you.
