Get paid to play video games

Usually I wouldn’t waste my time with something so absurd, but in my casual browsing I noticed a Google AdWord for a site offering such a service, and that tells me that too many people are still falling for this. Google AdWords by their very nature shouldn’t be trusted, and despite providing a source of income for many website owners, I don’t believe many people are aware of how damaging they have become. There are a number of different websites you'll find advertised within Google AdWords that we block in SiteHound, but more on that another time.

Anyway.....back to the shenanigans........there’s already a lot of information out there discrediting this kind of service. I also don’t want to repeat too much what’s already been written. So here it is in really simple terms.

You do not need to buy a guide to learn how to get paid to test video games.

The way you get paid to test video games, is to get a regular job, at a game development company in their QA (Quality Assurance)/Testing Department. Like any regular job, it will require commitment, desire, and a passion for the task.

You will not get paid $120 an hour to game test.

If you managed the whole QA department, you would earn an amount equal to the responsibilities and role you undertake. But $120 an hour ? That’s almost $250,000 a year working full time. If it were that easy Columbian Drug Lords would be setting fire to their crops and setting up outsourced game testing facilities.

Generally game testing is considered an entry level position, and therefore pay can be relatively low by comparison to other roles. To be a good game tester you need a keen eye for detail, great organisational skills, and patience. Lots and lots of patience. Starting out as a tester can provide better opportunities in the company later on, or progression as game testing takes many different forms. But overall it’s not a glamorous role. Limos will not arrive at your door to pick you up, that hot babe in Biology will not ask to share your anatomy notes.

So that’s pretty much it, those two points alone should give you justification enough to avoid these websites. Ahhh, but what websites you ask, there’s probably more than one ? Actually there's a lot, some just carry adverts , some are setup to specifically target people with this. Over time as I update the list I'm sure it will get a bit messy.

Cue the music....Lower the lights....Lift the Curtains....and now Ladies and Gentlemen, let the shaming begin....

P.S. I can’t sing to you, so just do the ‘Da, DaDa, Da” jingle in your head...or hum it, I don’t mind either way.

My roomate and I also got

My roomate and I also got scammed by this company in Dec. I have been dealing with the consequences ever since. My roomate is currently facing theft by intent to fraud charges because of all of this. We did all of our orders via email and sent the money to China via Moneygram. I am personally out over $1000.00. If anyone can share more of their horror stories so I can give them to our attorney as proof that there was no intent to fraud anyone on our end it would be appreciated. In return, if I can help anyone else, please contact me.
