Have a "Quick forwarding" option as well as "Quick reply."

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 7:58pm | by AlphaCentauri

Sometimes a message comes to a mailbox full of spam and I want to view the html/images or whatever, but I don't have time to sort and delete the spam first. Downloading all the messages in the same account to my email program before deleting the spam would defeat the purpose of having MWP.

It would be helpful to forward those single good messages to spam-free addresses to view them in my mail client without having to download all the other emails too.

Better Blacklist management

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 7:58pm | by Ukjim

Occasionally when using Mailwasher I have Blacklisted an email address accidentally.

But it is often difficult to find the address amongst the many addresses in the Blacklist. Can you provide a pattern search box and highlight feature in the Blacklist (and why not the Friends list too).

I am concerned that the Blacklist column sometimes gets ticked even for Friendly email addresses, and they then go into the Blacklist. This might be due to overzealous use of the "This filter takes precedence over the Friends list" option.

So it begs the question: What precautions are taken by Mailwasher to prevent friends being added to the Blacklist?

I know the manual tells us that Friends are considered highest priority, UNLESS the Filter takes precedence option is chosen, but does this result in potentially friendly emails being added into the Blacklist?

If its possible for this to occur, then it would be useful for Mailwasher to highlight (eg Bold or colour) any addresses in the Blacklist which are potentially Friends? eg. match a wildcarded domain that is in the Friends list.

And when the incorrectly Blacklisted address is found, it would be very useful to right-click it and choose an option called Move to Friends List.

Messages on friends list group together when sorting by "status" then "learning"

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 7:58pm | by AlphaCentauri

Current situation: To avoid false positives -- and to avoid inadvertently deleting good emails -- I have Bayesian set to be relatively lenient in evaluating messages. Many spams are marked as "good," but good messages are rarely marked as "spam." That's important for me, as my good messages often include words that occur frequently in spam.

I want to be able to quickly evaluate the "good" messages to sort through which are really spam. Currently, I sort by "status," then sort by "learning." That makes "learning" the primary sort criteria and "status" the secondary criteria, which puts all the ones that are most questionable together.

What should happen is that all things with the same "learning" rating are grouped together, and within each of those groups, the messages are sorted by the "status" column. I then should be able to glance through the spam that is misidentified as "good," find the real good messages, either mark them as "Friends" or create/modify a filter so they will be correctly identified in the future, repeat the sorting, select all the spam at once, and then change its learning column to "spam" before clicking "process mail."

The problem is that when the status is "Friends," it appears that once the mail is resorted by "learning," the "Friends" designation in the "status" column isn't being taken into account in the sort. The "status" that appears to count is what those messages *would* have had if they had not been on the Friends list. So messages that are on the Friends list -- and known to be good -- are interspersed among all the spam that was misidentified. I can't select the whole list and change the learning rating. I have to go through and select small groups of spam, then skip over some Friends, then select another group of spams, etc.

When the "status" column is the primary sorting criteria, "Friends" are all grouped together. I would like that to be the case when it is the secondary criteria, too.

It would be helpful to know when the FirstAlert license is due to expire - can you add this functionality to the application - say on the Spam Tools >> FirstAlert window. Currently there is no way to tell over what period i have a valid license.

Save complete message in Recycle Bin

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:01pm | by Kurtgs

Even at 800 lines (current limit that can be saved with MW), a message with attachments is trashed when it's recovered. Even a large HTML format message can be more than 800 lines. I would like to see two new options for the recycle bin: "Always save complete message", and "Always save message if it has attachments". MW could still use the line number setting to determine how much of the message to read from the server to check for spam. But if one of the other options was checked, it could go back to the server and read the complete message before saving it. (I've already chatted with some people at FireTrust about this, but am putting it up here so other people can vote on it.)

Admin (Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:01pm)

Ok, we've added the ability to download the very large emails, so when they're added to the recycle bin, it will be the complete email.

Check other custom folders besides Inbox

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:02pm | by Gavin

I have created several folders to sort my mail as it arrives in Yahoo. I have noticed Mailwasher will only display mail that is contained within the Inbox but not my other folders e.g. Personal, Newsletters, etc.

It would be a great help if it did?

You'll be able to do this in the new version we are writing provided you use IMAP to retrieve your email.

MW connection errors

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:02pm | by Bigdog31

MW tends to be more intolerant of connection problems than any of my email programs, and piles on the arcane error messages that otherwise provide no useful information for either me or my mail services in diagnosing or fixing the problem.

Even if the error messages are suppressed, it does not resolve the problem of the apparent timing errors in accessing the emails. MW tends to have a higher fail rate with specific ISPs, but not others.

MW needs to have some advanced user controls to adjust whatever timing sequences for specific ISPs. MW would present a list of POPs from the listed email accounts, and allow the user to select any (or all) of the POPs needing adjustment or resetting to MW defaults.

Read pst and other mail files to find addresses for friends lists

Now that Microsoft is opening the pst mail file format for others to access it would be nice if MW would scan your pst files and collect addresses to add to the friends list.

Doing the same for other mail programs with open format files would be very nice too.

store headers (or preview) / check for updates

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:03pm | by Gast

1.could add the option to download only the headers (not the body) of the emails. some users can recognize spam, based on headers. then:
-those downloaded headers could be STORED on disk (like in a database file, poppeeper does that). this means MUCH faster MWP startups, since when MWP restarts it would download only NEW headers. then:
-the user should have the option to preview ANY email (by double-clicking it in the message list), so MWP could assess if it is spam or not.

2.ideally ALL the above but with the body preview (first X lines as defined in general options, and not the attachments) of the email, poppeeper again does that.

3.could add the option to check automatically (or manually) for product updates.

thank you.

Admin (Wednesday 27th of January 2010 10:45am)

the new version we're working on stores everything in a database and caches it, so retrieval is very fast.

Add a count of emails displayed

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:03pm | by Dvdvnr

On many occasions I have checked my email in MW with a small number of emails showing and then downloaded them into my email client Thunderbird (TB) but noticed that one or emails has managed to slip in during the small time between checking the mail in MW and downloading in TB. For example, MW may be showing 3 emails but I actually download 4. That's fine when there is a very small number but I am on several mailing lists and often have a large list (more than 30) in MW. Emails can then turn up in TB that I have not noticed in MW due to them slipping in at the last moment. Whilst there's nothing that can be done to fix that occurence, it would be nice for MW to show the quantity of emails it currently has in its list so that, if I see TB announcing that it has downloaded a different quantity, I can find them straight away and not discover them hours, days or weeks later (I filter all incoming emails in TB but often leave them unread as I tend to read them in the MW preview pane).

Hope my rambling on makes sense!

Ability to Filter By Date So Your Whole InBox Does Not Download

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:03pm | by Gast

Clearly, You Don't need to see every single email in history (too time consuming and redundant) so logically if you can filter i.e. by date or even "not read" it would streamline you loading of an account.

Also a "unique" sender filter may expedite processing as well.

"Deleted" Column Showing Date/Time a Message is/was Deleted in the Recycle Bin

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:06pm | by QuietOne

I'd like to be able to restore messages by having access to the Date & Time a message was Deleted. There are many times when I've been asked by friends or other people to check something that they sent me in a message that may have been one of several they sent me on a given day (It was in the third message I sent you on ) which may or may not be the third message I deleted. Sometimes I'll keep a particular message for several days/weeks before I delete it and having access to WHEN I deleted a message will/would help in tracking it down.

download newest emails first dammit

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:07pm | by Gast

the older version of mailwasher used to download the newest emails first.
this was a greeat feature, for the most blatantly obvious of reasons.

the newer version of mailwasher downloads from the oldest emails first to the newest.
with thousands of emails in an inbox you must then wait hours before the newest emails arrive, so you can get rid of the spam.

who dreamt up that bone headed idea?

what is even worse, uninstalling the newer version of mailwasher and instyalling the older version does not solve the problem because if you keep your settings so you don't have to go through all that again, now the older version also downloads tfrom oldest to newest as well.

pathetic!

Admin (Monday 5th of October 2009 4:47am)

Sorry but I can't recall any of our older versions downloading newest emails first, which old version do you mean? The rewrite of Mailwasher downloads the newest emails first

Check for Updates + Version number posting

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:07pm | by Gast

Hello Developers!
I love this Mailwasher Pro program. It's amazing, at stopping all that nasty, insidious mail from getting to my "In-Box". Would it be possible to have a drop-down (from "Help", for instance) menu option, that a user could click, to "Check for Updates"? I don't seem to remember seeing any automatic update checking option, anywhere in the options either.

On another note...I've just visited the Mailwasher Pro page, at www.firetrust.com. (At 16:45 EST, on 27th January 2010). I didn't readily see any note of the current version number of MWP. What about having a little box - either just on the MWP page, or on the Firetrust home page - that will give the browser the current version number?

Admin (Friday 12th of February 2010 11:17am)

version number is on the download page :)

Double clicking an email (MWP Beta)

Completed Saturday 11th of September 2010 12:03am | by Anniebrion

When you double click and email and the windows pops up can we not have the size and position saved for when it is opened again.

If you have it on the source tab the default size means that most lines word wrap and widening the window stops this, but when you open another email the window resets to the smaller size and you have to keep widening the window. If it remembered its size and position it would be much more user friendly and save me a lot of agro.

Admin (Monday 26th of April 2010 3:33pm)

Confirmed that the Preview Window size will be saved.

Ability to reorder accounts & DNSBLs like you can filters

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:08pm | by Stan_qaz

It is handy to be able to reorder your filters so that one that does better is ahead of one that isn't performing well without having to delete and re-enter them or edit the filters.txt file in MWP 6.x.

In the Beta it would be nice to be able to reorder the mail accounts and the DNSBL entries:

-- The accounts just because you might want to move a slow one to the end or put your most important one first.

-- The DNSBLs because they are checked in the order listed and checking stops on the first positive result. Checking the server that has the most positive results first cuts down on the number of checks done and speeds up the Origin of Spam tool.

Discount for renewing your subscription

Completed Thursday 7th of July 2011 1:41pm | by Gast

Now with most software after you install it, it gives you a discount for renewing your subsciption, something to make it worth while renewing so you do not look else where for software. this could be in the form of a 2 year subsciption rather than one year, or discount ofn the fee.
Also in the payment types could we have the Australian dollar listed so as to save working out the convertion, I think you are big enough to at least add in a great country like Australia.
Otherwise keep up the good work it is certainly working well.

It wouldn't hurt for the +100 -100 spam meter now used to go past 100 in both directions.

When I get a lot of tools hitting on it having the readings go from -200 to +200 wouldn't be unreasonable. Don't shrink the scale, just use more of the circle up the current 1/3 to 3/4 or 7/8 so you get more needle movement.

Hello,

Wizard Email accounts can't find and import Thunderbird email account information if that information is not in its default location, i.e the user has used Thinderbird profile manager to store it somewhere else. Hence, you are required to enter the info manually, which should not be necessary. Should be no problem to make MW look a bit further.

Error reporting routines need improvement

Completed Friday 2nd of April 2010 8:16pm | by Bigdog31

If you use MW to check multiple accounts, then you will get a pile of error popups and logging for each account each time it fails to get the emails. Even when set to non-verbose, the logging is too verbose, and there is too much clicking and arcane error messages to suit my needs.

MW needs to simplify error reporting and logging, as well as to remove any currently logged error for a specific mailbox if MW was successful in reading the emails from that mailbox at a later time.

MW needs to simply check for the presence of an internet connection and report one event rather than twenty for all of the unsuccessful email account check attempts.

program improvement

Sometimes, for no apparent reason, it would appear that MW was not even open or that the tray icon disappeared. Clicking on the MW icon on the desktop or the start menu would produce a popup dialog box telling me that MW was already loaded. However, I still cannot get MW back on top to work with. The usual method of recovery is to pull up the Task Manager and kill MW, and then restart the program.

Instead of showing the useless dialog box, MW should simply bring the program back to the top without showing any error messages.

When a message ends up in the Recycle Bin for one reason or another and needs to be returned to one of my accounts, it always sends it to my home account and not the account that needs to have it back. I then have to wait for it to show up and then forward it to another account.

This seems like a fairly simple thing that has been overlooked for way too long. Since MWP supports multiple accounts, why does it not return messages where they belong when ask to rescue a message?
