Download only selected e-mails

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 2:12pm | by Gast

I use 2 different computers.
My laptop is used while traveling or working from home.
When I download mail to my laptop a copy is left on the server.
All mail is finally downloaded to my office desktop before deleted from the server.
Some times I need to download only one or two e-mails to respond or to get the attachmetns needed.
Is it possible to ad a coulumn to indicate which e-mails should be downloaded and then only download the selected e-mail?

Admin (Friday 25th of September 2009 10:46am)

We've been asked this many times over the years and it would be a great feature but unfortunately it's not a feature of POP3. Outlook Express etc can do it because they keep a log of which messages have been downloaded, but since MailWasher is only checking them and not downloading them then it won't work.
You could switch to IMAP (if your service provider offers it) which leaves all mail on the server anyway and lets you download the same email anywhere.

Sort highlighted

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 2:17pm | by Gast

I would like to be able to highlight a group of emails (those marked as spam) and sort by the subject line without this changing the sort options I already have set up to use when downloading email into MailWasher. This would make it far faster to find legitimate email that gets marked as spam and correct the processing settings beforehand to help prevent inadvertent blacklisting of good email.

locking option in Black/White list?

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 2:20pm | by Gast

Logntime user, since v2.
Be nice to have a way to LOCK a current black/whitelist item, so it doesnt inadverdantly get changed in its status, when Im scrolling thru hundreds (daily) of incomng spam email, that I have to dael with each day.

Sooner more than later, I inadvertanly change a current status of say *.gmail.com that is in the "FRIEND LIST", to blacklist, as I deal with hundreds of incoming spam, daily.

Thanks

To remember the already checked emails and not re-download them the next time

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 2:23pm | by Gast

Add an option to keep a copy of the emails on the server, and not recheck the reviewed emails the next time MailWasher is opened. (This option is available in Outlook Express)
It would be usefull when you want to store some emails on the email-server and you do not want them to be re-checked.

Master Password

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 2:30pm | by Gast

Thunderbird has a master password you enter after you teach it the passwords for all your e-mail accounts.

Mailwasher could really use one. I've grown tired of entering all my e-mail account passwords one by one each time I run it.

Thanks.

Admin (Friday 22nd of January 2010 8:58pm)

You can let Mailwasher remember all your email account passwords, or if you were just looking for a master password, why not create a separate user account in Windows with a password.

New Mail icon in the tray stops blinking its warning.

Rejected Tuesday 11th of May 2010 5:03pm | by Gast

Fix the ongoing problem of the New Mail icon losing its ability to blink a warning that new mail has arrived. The only solution I've discovered has been to delete the training folder, which necessitates the inconvenience of complete retraining. This problem occurs every few months.

Protected domains or senders from inadvertent blacklisting

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 2:32pm | by Bigdog31

I need to be able to specify domains and senders (in separate lists) that would be protected from inadvertent blacklisting or automatic deletion. There have been many times where I have clicked on the wrong email and killed off the entire legitimate domain (i.e.: yahoo, msn, aol, hotmail, etc.) or a legitimate sender, and causing loss of legitimate emails for quite a while before discovering and correcting the error. The protected list would be a top level filter that would disallow simple right-click blacklisting or deletion on specified domains or senders. If I specified aol as a protected domain, I would not have the right-click option to kill it, but I might have the option to kill that sender email crap@aol.

I have used mailwasher pro since its inception. Over time some emails have developed "immunity". I mark them for deletion, but they get thru anyway. Can that be helped?

Auto grid clear when MWP is minimized

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 2:55pm | by Anniebrion

As non-default accounts are checked just because they have an entry left on the grid even if you have the set to not be checked by default, requiring a manula clear grid after you have manually checked a non-default account and some emails have been added to the grid.

Can I request an option to clear the grid (without prompt) when I click on the start email program icon, I have MWPB minimized whrn this icon is clicked but as doing this implies that I have full finished with MWPB then this will stop me having to remember to clear the grid before opening my mail client.

Also the option to have the grid cleared when MWPB "X" it pressed would be a useful option too.

A check box that would allow the user to leave an email on the server until a later time when d/l a large file is easier

Rejected Friday 2nd of October 2009 7:14am | by Gast

I suggest a check box that would allow the user to leave an email on the server until a later time when d/l a large file is easier. For instance, if I am traveling and using my laptop, I may not want to download a large file or attachment. I might want to wait until I return to the office where I have faster speed.

Toolbar button to suspend automatic checking

Rejected Wednesday 11th of November 2009 9:51am | by Bigdog31

Sometimes we are in the middle of an extended download or other operation, and have to terminate MW to allow exclusive access to the system resources or net line. It would be easier if there were a toolbar button that would simply allow me to suspend the auto-checking of new emails, without piling up error messages due to being unable to make the connection.

Absolute deletion of specified senders or domains

Rejected Wednesday 11th of November 2009 9:54am | by Bigdog31

I previously suggested a filter option of protecting specified domains or senders from being blacklisted or deleted.

This suggestion is different. I would like to be able to have a filter option that would automatically delete and/or bounce emails from specified domains or senders without further review, and possibly without the option of saving them in the recycle bin.

This list would require manual entry into the list, and would be a top-level filter for those extreme cases of email harrassment or bombing from a specified sender.

MSN offers such an option, where a specified sender's emails simply disappear without notice. MW should do the same.

Admin (Wednesday 11th of November 2009 9:54am)

You can write a filter to do this quite easily

Blacklisted sender names or keywords in the subject line

Rejected Wednesday 11th of November 2009 9:55am | by Bigdog31

Many spammers bypass filters by changing their emails or forging a new one everyday... but still use the same name or subject.

MW should have a sender name blacklist so we can zap out those pesky emails from Robert Allen or some of those inkjet refillers like Simply Ink.

MW should have a subject line keyword blacklist so we can zap out those emails with specified words in the subject line, like drugs, pharma*, viagra, cialis, levitra, real estate, get rich quick. The blacklist should allow wildcarding by using the asterisk, just as is done in searching for an item on ebay.

Admin (Wednesday 11th of November 2009 9:55am)

You can easily create a filter to auto delete these

Allow me to select which email program to launch

Rejected Thursday 3rd of December 2009 4:06pm | by Gast

I was happy until I moved Office XP to Vista. Vista will not allow Outlook XP/2003 to save passwords to the registry, and we will not upgrade to Office 2007 because it is a pathetic resource hog and has more pretties but much less capability for professionals who have to wrote code to supports company apps used within it. So we stay with Office XP. However, I have to lanch a 3rd party utility (Hot Key) so that it will automatically insert passwords for Outlook as needed when it is lauched through the 3rd party batch. But Mailwasher will only launch the default mail program, not allowing me to specify my batch. I realize this is a narrow user base, but having been a software enginneer since 1978, I would not have seen such changes as difficult in any of the many apps that I have developed. Thanks for a great product. It has already stopped a number of emailed viruses from chewing our systems.

Admin (Thursday 3rd of December 2009 4:06pm)

This is already possible under Settings >> General Options >> to the (far) right of "Launch email application after processing" click the Specify button and select the program there.

Add a "Hold/Release" like along with "Bounce/Blacklist/Delete..."

Rejected Tuesday 5th of January 2010 9:44am | by Gast

Maybe this is the same as "To remember the already checked emails and not re-download them the next time", but it's not uncommon for me to wash a batch of mail from my laptop and have a few that I want to download right away and others that I want to download to another pc. If the default was something like "Release" and I had the option to mark selected messages as "Hold" I could get and act on the ones I want to and download the others later without having to download them immediately and then forward them to myself for later downloading on the pc. Maybe the POP3 limitations mentioned in the other suggestion would prevent this, but it sure would be handy.

Admin (Tuesday 5th of January 2010 9:46am)

We'd like to create mobile versions, but there's so many different mobile operating systems out there. If we'd gone for Windows Mobile in the past then now days, we'd also have to introduce an iPhone and most likely an Android version - a lot of extra work.

Quick Reply starts Thunderbird

Rejected Sunday 3rd of October 2010 10:55pm | by Al bryant

I use Thunderbird for my e-mail client, and MailWasher Pro will start it either after "Wash Mail" or hitting the "Thunderbird" button at the top of the page. However, when I've hit the Quick Reply tab at the bottom, it tries to start MS Outlook, which I do not have configured and refuse to use. My suggestion is to have the Quick Reply button start the same e-mail client that appears on the button at the top.

Thanks for your attention. MailWasher is a great product. Keep up the good work.

Spam Tools, Add Services, checking two boxes does not save

Add an optional column beside delete that allows you to select an individual sender to automatically block and delete.

Rejected Saturday 16th of July 2011 4:49pm | by Gast

Add an optional vertical column beside delete that allows you to select an individual sender to automatically block and delete an individual sender. Day after day I keep getting spam from the same senders. It's very time consuming to keep going in and deleting these emails several times each day. mailwasher identifies them, but you still have to go through each to make sure that it's correct and you don't want to turn on the global auto delete function as it catches some good emails too whichd ned correct with that mode. You might consider also having the option of automatically bouncing these specifically identified senders.

I've used your product since it's inception and wouldn't be without it. Both it and the service are outstanding.

Admin (Saturday 16th of July 2011 4:48pm)

You can already set blacklist entries to auto-delete. In Mailwasher 6.54 you can do this in the blacklist area (something we'll intro in the 2011 version) and in the 2011 version you can create a filter>>spam tool rule to do this.

Please add the ability to filter emails by wild card domain letters

Rejected Saturday 16th of July 2011 4:46pm | by Gast

Please add the ability to create filters with a "wild card" domain name search based on the number of letters that follow the last "dot" in the address. Here in the United States the vast majority of spam emails that I get come from domains outside of the US that all end in a two letter domain, like ".cn" or ".bz", or ".ro" ect. . . . I would like to create a filter that would bounce/delete all emails that come from addresses that end in a "dot two letter" ending. This would eliminate the vast majority of the spam I get.

Admin (Saturday 16th of July 2011 4:46pm)

You can already do this by setting up a filter - regular express filter with each domain like this |.ca|.bz|.ro etc

Multiple spam words from subject field in single filter

Rejected Friday 10th of September 2010 11:50pm | by Gast

I would like to be able to include multiple spam words, for example, "lottery", "Viagra" and all the sex type words you get into a single filter rather than have to create a filter for each individual term. This would save a lot of time.

Admin (Friday 10th of September 2010 11:50pm)

You can do this by using a regular expression filter and using the PIPE symbol between each words.

sex|viagra|cialis

A third mail quality option: 'good' mail, 'bad' mail, 'caution' mail

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 11:14am | by Gast

I'd like to see the 'Good' + 'Bad' mail alternatives supplemented with a 'Take care' [Caution] mail option.

Most users of Mailwasher would have senders of mail which, every now and again, send worthwhile mail, but which for the most part, are of the spam variety. Typically, one finds this with the regular mail-outs by reputable software houses, book retailers, and so forth.

If I am looking at a Mailwasher display, I want to be readily able to visually identify those incoming emails that can not automatically be accorded a classification, but indeed, require my careful attention.

I should like to be able to right click the display line of incoming mail to classify future mail from that sender / source 'treat with caution', and the associated ability for the future display lines disclosing such 'take care' emails to automatically be coloured a cautionary 'mid-yellow'.

This would leave my 'good items' of mail 'green-coloured', the spam and other filtered-out items 'reddish coloured', and the line items that require closer inspection being clearly and conveniently distinguished. Where any sender has been classified as a 'take care' sender, each time there is new incoming mail from that source the Mailwasher user can quickly decide whether or not (on that particular occasion) to delete or accept those individual 'take care' items, depending on the perceived 'acceptable' or 'unacceptable' nature of that incoming mail.

Group by download time

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 11:37am | by Gast

One of the difficulties when you have a large number of emails and/or a large number of accounts is getting part way through a review and having a refresh that adds in emails in several different places in your list (i.e. when the list is not sorted by time/date).

Have an option to delay the display of the latest new emails until the existing list had been washed. Then allow the ability to view each download group (grouped by time/date) and to work on those in isolation. This could be displayed as a line in the list pane with download date and time and the number of emails in that group. Obviously if the emails where downloaded by your email software and a group no longer had any emails in it then this group would automatically be removed on refresh.

Cheers,

Please bring back the "Download All" button

Rejected Thursday 7th of July 2011 12:54pm | by Delta.kilo

The older MW 6.5.4 has a easy to reach button to download the complete email but MWP 2011 seems to have dropped this convience?

Can this button please be added next to the 'Reply' & 'Forward' buttons in the Preview ribbon?

I find that 50 lines of downloaded email tends to be enough to render a preview and take action. Every day though, there's generally 1 or 2 pesky HTML emails that need 150-200 lines to get any sort of preview. For those emails, the preview pane is totally empty or shows useless styling code. Plus, the scroll down arrow in the preview generally doesn't work either which would otherwise trigger more email preview download.

Sure I could set the 50 line threshold higher but why waste bandwith if not needed?

MWP 2011 does have a 'Download All' option under 'Email' tab in the top right toolbar but a button would be easier :o) Alternately perhaps a "Download More" would be just as dinky eg: click to show another 100 lines; click again for 100 more etc.
Cheers,
Dennis

Anti-Spam or making a separate application to filter usenet news groups messages by their headers (subject).
