Mailwasher Dedicated E-mail Client

Featured Tuesday 17th of March 2009 3:18pm | by Smart1960

What about having a "Firetrust" e-mail client thingy? That way you could run a spam cop like programme through your servers at that end before mail came to us. Just a thought?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firetrust Mail........ why not ?? Works and is linked with all the other wonderful Mail washer products. I've been with Mailwasher since Nick was a loner working from somewhere in New Zealand. A good reliable email client. Perhaps with the ability to move the Mail Boxes from one drive to another. If I'm leaving home for a couple of month, I can grab my email box/es and copy them to my laptop and take my emails with me. Web mail is good but it isn't the real thing ?? Come on, have a go. Make it part of Mail washer as a free option maybe for the first year and part of registering MW in the future. I reckon it would make Mail Washer even more attractive.

Copying URLs by right clicking links from MW Pro

Featured Tuesday 25th of August 2009 5:13pm | by Pjg111

Being able to send a URL to Windows clipboard by right clicking the link might be a good idea. It would be similar to what you can do in MS Outlook Express (curiously feature not available in MS Outlook). You right clink the link which contains the URL you want to copy and you select a shortcut menu item such as Copy URL or whatsoever.

Do you feel it could be implemented in any future version?

Cheers.

A Tab for each account

Wednesday 16th of September 2009 12:32pm | by Gast

When you download many mails from different accounts, now you have a lot of mails in the same window.
With a tab for each account the mails in the window are only of this account, so, not only you
have a better layout, orderly and logically but with inferior number of mails to watch in the each window.

Admin (Wednesday 16th of September 2009 12:39pm)

Nice idea. You'll soon have the ability to group by accounts so it does make it easier to distinguish between email accounts but we'll definitely consider this

The preview pane to optionally render HTML

Friday 13th of March 2009 1:20pm | by Chris

As well as the Raw Source, and Plain Text I would like to see an HTML View that when selected would retrieve the entire email and render the HTML. It should probably only do this on messages considered good, and prompt for user confirmation on messages that are unknown. Messages considered spam should not have this feature

Mail Groups

Friday 22nd of May 2009 4:08am | by Kurtgs

Outlook has the ability to create mail groups... a subset of the defined accounts. I would like to see this in MailWasher.

We have a lot of email accounts. We run a business with multiple online stores, each with their own set of addresses for their specific domain. I also have several personal addresses that I use for various purposes.

There are times that I would like to scan just my personal accounts; or only the business accounts; or only the accounts for a particular store. Yeah, I can do them one by one. But that's just so much clicking!

This is not a "gotta have in version 1", but it would be really really neat in a future release.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a small business we have a number of individual email account that MW6.53 works very well for. However the generic email address is receiving up to 10000 junk emails per day which MW is deleting but storing in the recycle bin. This in itself is causing MW to suffer out of memory issues.
It would be good if you could customize so accounts like this do not store deleted mail in the recycle bin whereas other accounts are.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to be able to pull mail from groupings of mail Accounts with a single click.

At present the options to download mail with a single click are limited to mail from one single mail Account, from the Default Accounts or from All Accounts. I request the provision of more groupings than just the Default Accounts group for single click retrieval.

If this suggestion is accepted, please do not prevent any one mail Account from being placed into more than one group.

Thanks for your consideration.

Tony

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's a 'Default Accounts' group which will only check those email accounts you've put into the Default group. It would be useful to be able to create several groups so you could check several associated accounts in one go. This would be useful for checking all accounts related to one website or project, for example, or for checking each person's account if more than one person shares the computer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I choose to check on new emails, the dropdown box of email accounts is not separated into default automatically checked accounts and manually checked accounts.

These should be separated into two groups or at least shaded/bolded/highlighted in some way, so I can more easily locate accounts that require manual checking.

Perhaps I could group them into automatic / daily / weekly / monthly categories as needed to be able to manage dozens of accounts that are either generally out-of-use or otherwise seldomly used.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make two check boxes under each email account. Like this...
[ ] include this account in automatic mail checks, each X minutes
[ ] include this account in manual global mail checks

WHY:
I run multiple email accounts. During business hours I only want the automatic check pull in and alert me off business email. I could uncheck the 'include this account in default mail check' of my private or non-critical email accounts, but then I can not pull them all in in one go by manually clicking the 'Check Mail' button. I can only pull them in by checking for mail at each and every individual one. And that is clumsy.

Hope this helps.

ability to "wash" selected mails

Monday 20th of July 2009 10:13am | by Snigehere

One of the things I would like is a "reviewed" flag on the grid ...

I often have 100 to 150 mails to review so I start to work down the list and according to the rules of murphy's law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy%27s_law) as soon as I get near the end of the list MWP does another fetch and sorts the new emails in amongst the ones I have already reviewed so now I have to start again.

Having a "reviewed" flag and an additional "wash reviewed" function would allow me to wash out the ones I have already reviewed leaving the ones I have not yet done .....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If Mailwasher could check multiple ( at least 2) pop accounts and launch separate e-mail programs for each differently
example one could Thunderbird for one and Outlook for the other this would be great
There could be split screen on check or a split process button to process just one account if a person did not want to check the other
This would be great for shopping or work e-mails to keep separate from the primary

MWP moving between computers

Thursday 12th of November 2009 11:52am | by Erling

I would simply wish for an easier option for moving MWP between computers. Copying lists is fair enough, but every now and then there pops up a new computer in my stable, and I'd like something more convenient than meticulously typing in all acount settings over and over again. The most elegant way would be an "export account and every other list, filter and settings" to a file of any format that can be imported in the same manner on the new computer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would be great to able to backup all settings POP,SMTP, Blacklist, Friends list

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I have to reinstall my OS, a too frequent occurrence with Microsoft operating systems, I install and configure MailWasher before I do Outlook in order to avoid downloading any unwanted emails. Once done, I must repeat the entire process in Outlook. I see you have added a nice feature; importing user account and password details from Outlook, and also attempting to turn off automatic checking.

If you can push a setting like turning off automatic mail checking, can you also push all the account details into Outlook?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blacklist should be more transportable to a second computer using the same mailwasher pro also the friends should be exportable.

Option to personalize bounce message

Thursday 17th of September 2009 5:14am | by Gast

MWP bounce message differs from the real bounce message send by my server. Example: if a spammer send e-mails to valid accounts and unknown users on my domain and I use MWP to bounce the valid ones, he will get two different bounce messages and he will know that one of them it’s a fake bounce, so probably all addresses are kept in his mailing list. If bounce message in MWP could be personalized, then it could be set to match with the real one and they will not know the difference.

Display passwords option (for poor typists)

Tuesday 26th of May 2009 6:41pm | by Stan_qaz

It would be nice to have an option to display the password as it is being typed in instead of the masking.

That would make it easier for bad typists to enter their info and correct any errors. You'd mask the password by default but have view as an option ONLY when the password field is initially blank to prevent folks from filching other's passwords.

MailWasher as an Outlook plug-in

Saturday 9th of May 2009 1:56pm | by Kurtgs

It would be nice to have MailWasher functionality as an Outlook plug-in. The mail and recycle bin could be kept in the same MW internal format, but appear as Outlook folders. When washing the mail, the "good stuff" could be moved into the Outlook inbox without having to retrieve it again.

It would be really convenient to have MW and Outlook in the same "box". I would expect this to be a separate product, of course.

Test Filter right click option

Monday 11th of May 2009 6:05am | by Kurtgs

Testing complex filters can be time consuming and there can be a lot of trial and error work, especially when regular expressions are involved.

It would be useful to be able to run a filter against that one pesky message that you can't get to match, and see what's going on inside. Right clicking a message could show a "Test Filter" option. Selecting it would display a list of available filters.

Selecting a filter would run the filter against the message and display the results. This would include each rule in the filter, whether it was matched or not, and the result for the filter as a whole.

For RegEx rules, showing the text that was matched would be useful, for those situations where the rule is too greedy (matching too much).

Instant Filter right-click option

Monday 11th of May 2009 5:58am | by Kurtgs

The user should be able to right click a message and select an "Instant Filter" option. This would bring up a version of the Filter dialog with "From", "To", "Subject" and "Body" fields filled in. The user could edit the values and save the filter without going through the Settings menu. Clearing a field would remove it from the saved filter. (Alternatively, check boxes could be provided to select the fields to be used in the filter.)

Differences from the current MWP dialog:

1) The Body field would have to be a text edit (text box) field, not a single line text input field.

2) The Entire Header field should allow for viewing and selection of all of the individual headers in the message. This could be done in a new window, or a tab on the dialog. (For that matter, the body text could be in a separate tab too.)

I'll leave the details up to the code wizards, I'm sure they'll come up with something cool. This is not a "gotta have" for the first release, but would be nice to have somewhere down the line.

Ability To Copy Existing Filter As A Template For A New Filter

Saturday 14th of March 2009 1:39pm | by QuietOne

Having to start from scratch creating multiple similar but not identical filters is a real PITA. Another scenario is when a new need arises and the new filter only varies slightly (but enough to require a new filter) from an already existing filter you've written. If you could copy a previously created filter that was close to what you wanted for the new filter and then modify it as necessary for your new use, it would save a whole lot of time and reduce the number of errors in those newly created filters.

Add a redirect button to the quick reply one

Monday 17th of August 2009 1:26pm | by Stan_qaz

The quick reply button is nice as it opens your mail program and creates a new message for you but often you just want to send the message in the mail grid to someone and don't need to edit or comment.

Adding a button that would fetch the entire message from the server and then redirect it to another account would be handy. The key thing is for it to fetch and redirect the entire message. Something that worked in a manner similar to the Thunderbird redirect extension.

Mutiple Email Clients

Saturday 9th of May 2009 2:01pm | by Kurtgs

It's probably not very common, but I use several email clients: Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Mail, and occasionally Eudora. (I use them to make sure my HTML newsletters look okay in various clients.)

It would be nice to be able to specify multiple clients to launch from MailWasher. The default would appear as the icon, with the usual arrow to drop down a selection list of others.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rather than a single email client option, name of executable or URL on an account by account basis. Can't always get all my mail via a single method.

Filter option - Delivered To

Tuesday 26th of May 2009 6:49pm | by Stan_qaz

I'd like to see another drop down option in the Filter Rules to add an additional dedicated search area in addition to Subject, From, CC and To fields, a Delivered-To option.

The really nice thing about having a Delivered-To line in the header is that the address the message was sent to is always there even if the message was sent using BCC to remove the address from the To field, see the Gmail link below for an example.

This option would be a time saver over having to manually enter "Delivered-To:" ahead of each address you want to tag and is more accurate than just selecting "The entire header" and entering the target address.

DEL Button deletes one Mail imediatly

Wednesday 7th of October 2009 8:33pm | by Gast

How can I delete just ONE Mail ?
So is it possible that you activate the DEL Button, so I can check one Mail after the other by clicking the DEL Button.
Cheers
C.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I st up a rule, I'm hesitant to check the opiton "Delete Automacitally" or "Hide This Email", due to the fact that it could have unintended consequenses. If there were a button to "Always Delete" or "Always Hide" on an email by email basis, similar to the "Good" and "Spam" buttons, I wouldn't have to look at the constant 1-800-FLOWERS ads every day. Maybe one way to accomplish this would be to set up an 'Add a rule on the fly' in the right click menu.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How about a one click that will fill in all of the boxes in column, like delete.

Search for a specific string/condition/regex/etc within the list of Filters

Monday 2nd of November 2009 10:43am | by QuietOne

It would be valuable to be able to search for a specific text string/condition/regex/etc within the entire list of filters a User has already created. There are many times when the User knows that a particular string/condition/etc has been included in a filter but can't remember exactly which filter it was. By enabling a search function over the filter list the User could easily find which filter had the respective text string/condition/regex/etc and then go to it and modify/delete/add to that rule(s) instead of having multiple filters with similar conditions.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything else (Inbox Tab and Recycle Bin Tab) seems to already have it's own Search Function but what I could really really use from time/time is a Search Function that searched the Filters for ANY type Text String (Plain Text, Regex Code, Email Address, etc.).

There are many times I know that I've had hits on certain text strings (one type or another) previously but don't recall for sure which filter it was that had the hit. If I could search the Filter stack for a specific Text String w/o regard to whether or not it was Plain Text, a Regex, an Email Address or some other string, it would help me locate the particular Filter I want to modify that much easier. And if I end up not getting a hit (which means I must have been dreaming) then I would know right away that I need to create a new Filter, thus again speeding the process.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Write a search function for the filters, so that I can easily find conflicts.

In the "Email account" options add the ability to have a custom sound (or no sound) for each email account, that would be different from the default sound that is set in the "General Options".

Reasoning: Some email accounts may warrant more or less immediate attention. Sounds could be disabled for some accounts, and others could have a nice loud obnoxious alert sound!

Retrieve all messages or just delivered emails from MailWasher's recycle bin.

Sunday 4th of October 2009 6:24pm | by Barry Groves

Retrieve not only messages from MailWasher's recycle bin that you have rejected (undelivered) and deleted but also the messages that I have read and then deleted. If it's a matter of space available, I would gladly shorten the amount of messages saved. I can't think of a time I wanted to bring back a message that I deleted before it was delivered but often wish I could reference an email that I have read and then thought I was through with it. Perhaps have a choice to just recycle the emails that have been read or the rejected mail.

Banned country domains

Thursday 12th of November 2009 5:16am | by Bigdog31

MW needs a top-level blacklist that would allow the user to choose which countries he wants to receive email from.

There would be an alphabetical list of countries next to its assigned country domain, such as .po, .jp, .ru. The user would simply select those country domains and MW would then flag emails with suspect country domains.

Selective blacklist actions

Friday 13th of November 2009 6:17am | by Bigdog31

MW is currently configured to require the user to either manually or automatically delete and/or bounce all emails from blacklisted senders.

I would rather have the option to revisit the blacklist and elect to have certain emails automatically deleted and/or bounced. This should not be a right-click option to avoid inadvertent selection.

The blacklist would be primarily listed or categorized in order of action severity:

A) automatic deletion and bounce
B) automatic deletion
C) proposed deletion & bounce held for review and manual action
D) proposed deletion held for review and manual action

Bounce messages generally don't work for the run-of -the-mill spammer, as they use forged emails that would otherwise generate bounce message errors.

However, it can be effective for individuals and legitimate organizations that might otherwise persistently send or forward crap mails. This would reduce the number of bounced bounce messages.

IP Address Blacklisting

Friday 11th of December 2009 2:02pm | by Gast

Block by ip address, group. There are so many faked email addresses and even content. I use a regular expression filter for entire header like this:

61.([0-9]{1,3})\.([0-9]{1,3})\.([0-9]{1,3})|62.0.8\.([0-9]{1,3})|62.39.2\.([0-9]{1,3})|62.99.([0-9]{1,3})\.|62.148.92.14[0-3]|62.149.72.6[1-3]|62.233.170.8|64.51.41.[0-3][0-9]|64.76.91.|64.202.123.199|66.178.239.98

But it gets old digging out all those Received from [IP numbers] from source view, pasting into a whois lookup to find out it is usually some radical country or same bunch of spam servers, finally adding to the fancy filter.. IP blocking is the only filter that seems to work when all else fails, especially when they fake friendly domains already on friends list.

Easily figuring out the actual sender's IP and adding to an IP blacklist can save new users the years I spent compiling a 98% successful filter list. I notice many are same IP's being reported by my website server too!

Now, if I can just figure out how to stop them emails with special characters from jamming up memory usage..

Show total size of all emails listed in main windows

Wednesday 9th of December 2009 10:48pm | by Ukjim

Sometimes it would be useful to know what the SUM TOTAL SIZE of all the emails held in your mail account are, so you know if your mail account might go over its quota.

Situation: Currently my stepson has a problem with his broadband connection which means he is having to use someone else's laptop to view his emails (but he wants to leave them on the server until the phone line is fixed, at which point he can download them properly onto his main computer and delete them from the server). This problem means he is regularly hitting the email quota on his account, and it would be useful to know at a glance how close to that limit he is. I am helping by using Mailwasher Pro to keep an eye on his account and zap the spam every couple of days.

Showing the total of the listed emails probably only makes sense for a single account (I normally check several), but it is easy to clear the main window (by pressing C), then running F5-Check Mail for just that one email account.

I thought that this might be a simple-to-do and useful suggestion that other MWP users might find handy.

multiple friend lists

Saturday 28th of November 2009 2:59am | by Gast

I would like to see the capability to have multiple friends lists, say 3 to 6.

I use use the custom filter capability almost exclusively. I have a lot of filters (now, too many to easily manage). This is because the degree of filtering that I use for any particular email depends on what "group" I consider it to be in: Good Friends/Family, Work, Normal, Caution.

For example, currently I do not put any "Caution" email in the Whitelist, however, I also don't want to place them in the Blacklist - so it is sort of in the twilight zone. This email category often comes from exploder lists, which anyone may send to.

It would be much simpler for me to filter based on category. Each known (permitted) email would be on one of the lists. The filtering would be applied to the list. This would take care of ~95% of known email. I would still use my current filters against unknown email, and the Blacklist would still apply (although it is less effective nowadays).

Add Master "Delete" & "Bounce" button to Main Screen

Wednesday 19th of May 2010 1:27pm | by Gast

I receive literally hundreds of junk e-mails daily (have a hobby-related web site), and it is so tedious having to click delete/bounce for each line item. There may be 2 e-mails that are legitimate out of 200 to 300 that come in. It would be SO MUCH easier to click a master delete button then "un-check" the one or two that are good. Note that I have set up extensive filters, but there is only so much filters can take care of.

Is there any way this could be done, or am I the only one with this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Allow Filters to be Added at Any Position

Thursday 31st of December 2009 7:41am | by Gast

This has been driving me absolutely nuts since day 1. I have maybe 100 filters, and each time I try to add a new one, it is placed at the very bottom of the list. I then have to move it up to the top or find similar filters so I can group them together....

It's a royal pain in the...knee. Yeah, knee.

Why not make it so that I can highlight a spot in the filter list and click Add New Filter and have it add it WHERE I'VE HIGHLIGHTED?

Please? PRETTY please? With sugar and whipped cream and a cherry?

Close mailwasher when clicking mail client

Friday 9th of April 2010 7:34am | by Gast

I would like to have the option to close mail washer pro when clicking "Mail Program" like the "process Mail" button. This would give the chance to process initial marked junk leaving a smaller list of mails to further process before launching my email client.

add app for Android

Saturday 29th of May 2010 10:40am | by Gast

Need to add an app for the Android. If your goal is to make Mailwasher so valuable that we cannot live without it, then we need to have that goal met on smartphones as well. Avoiding taking that step is going to make you as obsolete as Microsoft is going to be.

Add a "print message" and "forward message" function PLEASE

Thursday 8th of April 2010 5:41am | by Chasms

If these 2 functions were added to MWP, I'd never have to open Outlook at all. That would be such a blessing!

But in order to forward, MWP would have to gain access to my address book. Could this be accomplished also? Pretty Please. Outlook won't download just 1 message from my MWP box. It wants to empty it so I have to go there to read everything. PAIN!

Like to know which filter caused an email to be marked

Friday 21st of May 2010 6:49pm | by Gast

I would like to be able to find out which filter caused an email to be marked on the display screen and in the deleted emails screen. Sometimes emails that I don't want to get deleted get deleted anyway and it would be nice to know which filter caused it to be deleted so that I could modify the filter not to delete or mark the email for deletion. This would be very handy so that I do not have to look thru every filter for the cause...

Filter rules (On/Off)

Wednesday 18th of August 2010 2:32am | by Anniebrion

Any chance of an option to be able to turn off/on individual Filter rules? This would help when testing filters, especially when testing complicated regex.

A check box above the delete button would be ideal.

"Mail last checked at hh:mm" (not "xx m,inutes ago").

Friday 20th of August 2010 12:30am | by Dave Clayton

My machine is sometimes EXTREMELY slow (not MW's fault !). But information like "Default mail last checked xx minutes ago" becomes misleading - I would like an option to be able to see "last checked at hh:mm" instead (or both ?).

editing spamlists

Tuesday 14th of September 2010 12:57am | by Gast

hi
in early versions of MW it was possible to export the blacklist (.txt) to Excel. the editing was fairly easy with find/replace. this XLS-list then could be exported again to the folder containing the blacklist.txt.

this was really helpful.

is it possible to reactivate this feature in MW Pro 2010?
