1. MailWasher re-write sneak peek
---------------------------------
I'm pleased to say we're making good progress with the re-write of the new MailWasher,
so we thought we'd share the progress with you.

With most of the tricky work complete, now it's a matter of making it look great and
tie in some of the final features.

We're still moving things around so this is by no means the final look.

Please see the YouTube video for a quick demo. We'll also keep you regularly updated
on progress from now on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vejPWISSNg&hd=1

You've probably got lots of questions, so we've tried to provide some answers at
http://firetrust.com/en/products/new-mailwasher

2. MailWasher needs you!
------------------------
To be able to make the new MailWasher even better, we'd like to ask you for help.

We know you all configure MailWasher differently, have different computers, monitors,
screen resolutions, versions of Windows and so on.

Because we want to make your future experience with MailWasher great, we've created a
small statistics program that collects some of this information.

This information will go a long way in helping us make design and configuration decisions
about the new MailWasher so that it best suit you.

Just to put your mind at rest, all this is completely anonymous and confidential.
Nothing identifying is extracted, just some basic stats.

So, please take a minute to download and run the statistics collector.
You only need to do this once, but if you run MailWasher on more than one computer wed
appreciate having the statistics on those computers too.

For further information please visit the StatCollector webpage.

Many thanks for your help!

Hotmail now has free POP3 access
---------------------------------
Great news for Hotmail users. Microsoft has enabled free POP3 access for Hotmail which makes
it a bit quicker to check your email.

See http://firetrust.com/hotmail_pop3 for details on the new settings, or version 6.51
of MailWasher will add these in automatically.

If you're interested in a bit more history about Hotmail and our battle with it, C
hris has written an interesting and sometimes comical overview at his blog.

Block spam which appears to come from you
--------------------------------------------
Are you sick of spam masquerading as though its from yourself? I think we've all received spam
at some time which looks like it comes from ourselves. One of our users kindly sent in a filter
to recognize this spam and so we'd like to share it with you.

Make your own filter by going to 'Settings' button>>Filters and then click 'Add' and make a filter
like this (but make sure you use your own email address).

See http://firetrust.com/sites/default/themes/firetrust.com/images/email/mw6...
for a graphical representation.

MailWasher Enterprise Server Released
-------------------------------------
Since we're re-writing all our software, first off the block was a replacement for our server antispam
software for company mailservers. Same old story, it became hard to maintain and add new features too
plus there were several issues which necessitated a redesign.

The new MailWasher Enterprise Server (MWES) Anti-Spam software is based on the same code we use in our
back-end systems for processing large volumes of spam in real-time so it's proven under load, light on
resources, easy to maintain and will allow us to quickly make changes and add features which companies want.
Works with Windows and Linux and includes a new feature called grey listing which pretty much blocks all
the spam which may otherwise slip through. We promise.

Incidentally, the new MailWasher Pro uses the same back-end code as MailWasher Enterprise Server.

You can visit the product page at http://www.firetrust.com/en/products/mailwasher_enterprise_server and
get a free 30 day trial.

I just downloaded the latest

I just downloaded the latest upgrade and find that I can't minimise it. I have had no such problem in the past. I'm using Windows XP Professional with Explorer 8. I have enjoyed using Mailwasher for many years but this is an annoyance. Please advise if I am not usibg it correctly now. Peter

Should be working as per usual Peter.  Typically a restart of MailWasher should do the trick, if not then reboot the machine.

I just had a major hard drive failure and had to reinstall MW. Is there a way to backup the accounts and settings so that if this ever happens in the future I can avoid having to manually re-enter everything? Thanks! Andrew Zack

I have been using Mailwasher

I have been using Mailwasher Pro for years. I am planning to update to an AMD 64 bit system using WinXP Pro. Does Mailwasher work in that environment? Urso Branco

Hi Urso Yes MailWasher will

Hi Urso

Yes MailWasher will run fine on a 64bit system, though it might not run as a native 64bit program instead as a 32 bit application.  However, with an application like MailWasher there are not any inherent benefits in running 64bit natively

I'm a newbie. With trouble

I'm a newbie. With trouble up the wazoo. Had lots of messages...Cannot find INBOX. Again and again. But... had Gmail and Spamcop output file both coming into mailwasher as IMAP's. Hence whatever was in MW was also on my Outlook. Sloppy, but it worked. But I had to manually clear the two IMAP inboxes on Outlook (W.O.??)(Windows Outlook=WO ?) ( Well 2007 has got some punch folks) into my local Inbox. What I desired was for MW to clean up the files as IMAP with the two servers GMAIL and the SPAMCOP Inbox. And then as part od "Process Files", dump the spam (report) and post the good stuff to OUTLOOK and empty out the MW work window. So I set up WO as POP with Gmail and Spamcop. And boom! they cleaned out the INBOXes at the servers and MW never touched the data. I'm missing something here. Any suggestions. Obi-Wan Mailwasherino? SteveM

Not too sure what you mean

Not too sure what you mean here Steve, IMAP is designed so that all mail (including email downloaded into your email program) is left on the server, so it will always show in the Inobx folder until deleted or moved into another folder.

Suggestions for New Version

Suggestions for New Version . . . I'm sure you already have this on your WISH LIST but here are my hot buttons for things I would like to see in the new version. 1. Be able to print an e-mail from MailWasher. Even if it is only the PLAIN TEXT portion of the e-mail and not the HTML Version. Ideally we would have the option to print HTML or Plain Text. 2. Your suggestion of how to eliminate SPAM when people try to send us e-mail with our own e-mail address in the FROM field works fairly well. However, as we know, it's not perfect. One additional check could weed out a lot of bogus e-mail. What I would really like to do is test the NAME that is used, the part outside of the carrets, against valid values that I'm known as. Even if they have the same e-mail address in the From and in the Return Path, many times the name they use is NOT one that would be expected. i.e. My E-Mail might be Mike@MSmith.com and obviously my name is Mike. Many times I get e-mail from John Doe . In this case they have my e-mail address which shows up as a FRIEND but the name is wrong. The following test would eliminate this. * Allow if ANY rule is satisfied If address contains mike@msmith.com and NAME contains Mike or If address contains mike@msmith.com and NAME contains Smith then ALLOW. I could add more tests if there were multiple names that I might be known by. 3. I wish I could designate multiple levels of FRIENDS. For instance, I get multiple newsletters each day. While these are important there not as important as e-mail from my family. These newsletters might be designated as FRIEND but have a LEVEL 9. E-mail from my wife or kids might also be a FRIEND but say a Level 1. Then when I SORT on the STATUS column I would see all my LEVEL 1's together down to my LEVEL 9's. While they are all designated as FRIENDS, some are more important than others. 4. I wish I could play a particlular SOUND based on a RULE (or filter). Again, e-mail from my FAMILY would generate one sound while e-mail from my NEWSLETTERS might generate a different sound or no sound at all (my choice). I have this functionality now in another product (MailBell). Which brings me to my last request. 5. The reason I have MailBell operational along with MailWasher, is that MailBell gives me a POP-UP window at my selected intervals and displays portions of the e-mail that I can choose. I have choosen to display the FROM address and the SUBJECT. If MailWasher could do the same thing, with the option of displaying only those types of messages (based on the STATUS column) that I choose then I wouldn't need MailBell. That's my list. If you need any more beta testers I'm available. I've been in the computer business for 35 years, written hundreds of programs, owned a software company for 15 years (and sold it) and currently do Internet Marketing Full Time. Thanks for taking the time listen to your customers. MB

Thanks for all your

Thanks for all your suggestions here, they are appreciated. We're working on the new custom filters now so many of these suggestions will be already considered. As for printing, yes that could be something we'll add in but probably in a later version. I like the mailbell idea - AV programs do this as well.

Send an email to chris.gleason@firetrust.com if you're interested in being a beta tester.

All I want for Christmas is

All I want for Christmas is MAILWASHER forMAC.

With the latest version

With the latest version clicking on "Mail Program" does not bring up my mail program like it use to, it opens up Windows Explorer window, I'm running Vista 32bit. 2. Now on my other computer Vista 64bit clicking on "Process and Mail Program" both buttons open up the Windows Explorer window.

Under Settings >> General

Under Settings >> General Options >> beside 'Launch email application after processing' click Specify >> use the option to manually specify the path and the "..." button to locate the EXE of your email program, once selected click OK >> OK >> OK.

For me, the biggest help

For me, the biggest help would be the ability to create a filter or set an option that says that if a domain is blacklisted, one can hide the emails and process automatically. Also, a button in the main interface to mark an entire domain as spam, not just that particular email. It is rare that I mark just an individual's mail as SPAM, it is usually a spammer who has made up a domain and is hosing my inbox with their junk. I second the request for more sophisticated (multi-tiered) boolean filtering for manually created filters if X AND Y OR Z type of filters, also the ability to right click on an incoming mail and choose to create a filter from it. The ability to search through our friends and blacklist and also view and edit them by domain (perhaps by tabular view.) also, this form does not submit in Google chrome. I just tried twice.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. We're working on the filters at the moment.

> option that says that if a domain is blacklisted, one can hide the emails and process automatically.

You can setup a filter to do this, although it doesn't use the blacklist explicitly, you'd need to define each domain in the filter.

We'll take note of the other suggestions as we're still at the planning stage of the filters.

> a button in the main interface to mark an entire domain as spam

We might make this a right click option

>   The ability to search through our friends and blacklist and also view and edit them by domain

This is in the new version.

> this form does not submit in Google chrome.

Yes, we'll be launching a new website soon which looks better and works with all browsers.

Hello, Thinking of it :

Hello, Thinking of it : would it be possible to add an option to search through MW Recycle bin ? I receive loads of mails, some for the first time, but valid, and it may happen that one or the other go through Recycle bin. It would be a great feature !

Yes, that is a great feature

Yes, that is a great feature to have and will definitely be part of the next version MailWasher

I have been quite happy with

I have been quite happy with the various versions of MailWasher Pro I've used over the years. I have recently "upgraded" my Trend Micro anti-virus/anti-spam from their 2008 version to the 2009 version. After the "upgrade," I've had no end of problems with MailWasher. Intermittently, it won't load when I start up my system. More than once, when I've tried to open MailWasher (using Ctrl+Shift+M), I get a message that MailWasher is already running -- when it is clearly not running. Then it has happened that my system will freeze. The only way I've been able to resolve this has been to do a hard reboot into safe mode and perform a system restore. Sometimes, I've had to repeat this process several times in order to get my system to boot up properly and for MailWasher to work. But even so, as happened today, my friends list and my black list have been obliterated more than once. When I contacted Trend Micro tech support, their "solution" was to remove MailWasher from my system. Obviously, I haven't followed their advice. But do you have a solution? Also, is there a way to back up the friends list and the black list so that when something happens to wreck them (as has happened to me more than once) they could be restored easily?

Check out this post in the

Check out this post in the forums.   I'd recommed trying a -restore, this post also goes into small detail about the data files and which to save in case of future badness.

I just registered with

I just registered with MailWasher freeware, I was hoping that it would provide a code to enhance the performance of the program like Spam-Cop, or weekly spam reports delivered into my inbox so I can who-is them with my trace-route progs. But I see that is a pay-for service. I am happy with what I have, not to sound like an ingrate BUT please do not flood my inbox with daily news or promos, all that does is give me more to read about your product that I can find in FAQ's or on a Google-search, 1 e-mail a month is fine, and I ask you not to ever share my e-mail address with any company or person affiliated with Mailwaher, if I upgrade to pro I am sure I will be tracking and reporting spam. phishing, scams and virii, so until then please keep your contacts with me at a minimum, thanks. Oh yeah, plain text ASCII text is fine, NO HTML or active scripting anything is not e-mail I like in my inbox from anyone.
Thanks for abiding by my wishes.

The Louis Vuitton company

The Louis Vuitton company carefully cultivates a celebrity following and has used famous models and actresses such as Jennifer Lopez and most Louis Vuitton Monogram Dentelle in its marketing campaigns. Breaking from their usual traditions of employing supermodels and celebrities to advertise their products, on August 2, 2007, the company announced that the former USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev would appear in an ad campaign along with Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, and Louis Vuitton Monogram Denim. Many rappers, most notably Kanye West, have mentioned the company in certain songs.
