As part of the ScamChecker website I have been building, I wanted to convey the sense of scamminess of a website through using images of common stereotypes.
I found early on though, that the images of the stereotypes I wanted were easy to find, but they were all too different. I’m no graphics designer, so instead I decided to try to make my own using a website to create free avatars, and I spent a couple of hours trying different services, eventually coming across DoppelMe.
From DoppelMe website
With DoppelMe you can create a cool graphical likeness of yourself, your friends, family or any group of people for use as an avatar in forums, instant messenger, blogs and almost anywhere else on the web.
It's free and there are no Flash, ActiveX controls, downloads or toolbars needed - just your browser and a few mouse clicks. That's it!
I have to make mention of this website for a few reasons. Not only was it exactly what I wanted, but when I also had some questions/suggestions which I emailed through to DoppelMe, I got fantastic assistance from Andrew.
But my other reason....I need coins, you see, a lot of the gear and accessories you can access is free, but some items require to be bought using DoppelMe Coins. DoppelMe Coins are earned by referring others. So if you are feeling generous, and would like your own little avatars. Follow the links here, sign up, and help me earn coins. With those coins I can create other el neato (and el cheapo) images to use when helping people not be scammed.
Here are the free avatars I have made so far, starting from most trustworthy going to the least trustworthy.
